Command & Conquer Generals...

Everytime I play c&c generals zero hour, the game slows to about 1 - 3 frames a second. This lasts for about 10 minutes, after which things start to speed back up again. I've tried defragging the hard drive, re-installing, but no luck. After a fresh install, I play the game for about a week, and then boom, slowdown after 5 mins. I've also tried changing the res & detail level, but once again, no luck. At first I thought it was too many computer opponents, but that doesn't matter either. Patching doesn't seem to help either...

Any suggestions on what in the world is causing this?? All my FPS games run wonderfully...i have FEAR running @ 30-40 fps with this system...why is c&c so slow?

specs are below:

Sempron 2200 (holdover until an x2)
1.5 gb RAM
36 gb raptor
6800LE

The same thing happens on my laptop

P-M 1.4
1 gb RAM
ATI 9600 GO 128mb

This happens to me also in generals, especially if I play as or against the infantry general. It's just a game issue, and putting my settings from highest to lowest makes no difference - I think it may be the AI pathfinding algorithm stalling the game. In any case, I dont know of any fix for it - it happens even with the latest patch, but it doesnt happen often so I just live with it.

hm. Mine happens EVERYTIME I play. It's like clockwork too in the time of it. I wonder if that is when the computer decides to launch it's first attach? Poor AI then..."oh...4:30 seconds have passed...attack!"
