command and conquer performance has gone to craps

Hi,

I've got

Athlon 1700+ XP
756MB 266 DDR Ram
9600XT AIW

I used to be able to play C&C Zero Hour at full res with all the graphic options turned up. Now, it seems that no matter what the setting, it constantly hangs for split seconds. I've shut down all the background programs I normally do. As a matter of fact, I used to not have to shut down many programs to get it to run smooth. Now, no matter what I do, the game constantly hangs, drags and stutters. I've look at task manager and peformance, and cpu/ram levels seem to be fine?

Could I have spyware? Could the install be fudged? NFS2Underground runs without a hitch. And Doom3 runs rather well too.....

Actually I have this same issue, has to do with the AI getting clogged up on certain maps. I really notice this on custom user created maps that I've downloaded. This is a known issue (if you google the problem you'll see of lots of people that have the same issue). I went to cncnz.com and read through their forums a little bit, there doesn't appear to be a fix right now. EA just released a new patch for ZH, 1.03 I think. I upgraded to that the other day but it still hasn't fixed this issue for me. If you are able to find a fix let me know! I've almost stopped playing that game because I can't stand the performance issues with the AI.

This recently happend to me with C&C Zero Hour after I downloaded the new Patch. It seemed everything was stuttering and the load times went to crap. I simply did some standard maintenance. Disc Cleanup and Defrag and now the progam runs great!

Nah, its an AI thing, get 4 hard computers going in skirmish mode and wait about 10 minutes, the game will degrade very quickly from there.

Exactly right. This is the reason I quit playing the game. No matter what your specs are, it starts lagging at some point in time. My new modern warfare RTS is Act of War: Direct Action
