I loved watching the meteor showers when we lived in Western Wyoming. At 7500 feet in elevation and very low population density, there was nearly no "light pollution" to affect viewing, and at that elevation, the night sky was always ablaze with stars.

here in northern kahleeforneeya, on a "clear" night, I can maybe see a dozen stars. :(

The last one I saw was back in 1978. It was a very awesome sight.

I also remember seeing that comet Hale-Bopp glowing in the sky back in 1997.

This show's been running every summer for my whole life. You'd think they'd run out of rocks.

I saw a couple on my camping trip this past weekend. Maybe it was the edge of this field.

I went out last year for this and I thought it was incredible. I'm planning on trying to catch it again... hopefully out in the country.

Same around here. You can see the major constellations, but that's about it. One of the worst local offenders is the fuckin' car dealer about 1/4 mile from me. They have their stupid lot lit up like a prison yard. On snowy nights in the winter, it looks like morning all night long from the light reflecting off the snow. I can easily read inside the house without any lights on :^S

Thanks! Some years are incredibly spectacular, other years, ho-hum. I'm hoping for clear skies later this week, along with decent temperatures.

Bumpity. Just came in from watching for a little while. Thinking of heading out to watch The Expendables. But, for a little while, 3 or 4 a minute average. Then, for about 5 straight minutes, none. Seeing them all over the sky, not just in one particular area, although most of them seem to be more toward the E at the moment.

Absolutely awesome viewing conditions here for a change. The Milky Way is really bright tonight. You can see thousands of stars.

Bah humbug, at least for me. Went out at 11PM, little overcast so the stars were really visible, looked Northeast for at least a half an hour, and saw nothing. I may try later, but at 3 am I will probably be watching the inside of my eyeballs. Maybe tomorrow.

Went out twice, for 10 minutes each time. I have great dark skies, which happened to be nice and clear tonight. I even saw the Milky Way. But I saw absolutely no meteors. :(

Went out for a little while again. Patio furniture is covered in dew, so I didn't want to sit down and get soaked. Watched til my neck got sore from standing and staring upward. Saw one decent one, a couple of lame ones & decided to give up.

I went out and saw a few more. I have to look to the west which, unfortunately for me, has too much light pollution.

I did see a bat and some large flying bugs.

not much of a shower for me.

You are lucky. I havent seen anything other than what appeared to be a couple of unintendified flying objects. They turned out to be tricks played on my eyes from staring at the stars and hoping to see something. I guess. :sneaky:

Maybe next year.

ps. Its still 90 degrees out at nearly 1am.

Just went out to the country for about 30 minutes or so. Saw one really good one, several ok ones, and a lot of little crappy ones.

Too many mosquitoes :p
