Coming Soon . . . PS2 Greatest Hits - $25

Article

PS2 games out for over 9 months and have sold over 400,000 copies will be considered greatest hits and sell for $25.

Initial titles will be

ATV Offroad Fury
Gran Turismo 3 A-spec
Twisted Metal:Black
Dark Cloud

So if you were thinking of getting any of these hold on for a little while and save $$$.
To be released on April 1st. I'm not fooling you either.

*edited for release date*

Following the lead of its market driving "Greatest Hits"
collection on the original PlayStation, the company expects this
new initiative to significantly contribute to category growth and
overall software sales when it is introduced April 1 through retail
outlets nationwide.

Looks like 4/1 is the date

Hmm, beat me to the punch. Anyway, looks like Sony's going to have the upper hand as it will be sometime before X-box and Game Cube can follow suit.

<< *sigh* and the inferior product retains market share...

good deal on some future games, though.
>>

possibly because it's got something the general public wants (fun games)..it's not always about raw power you know.

awesome deal on GT3, let's just hope they don't put ugly green stripes on these too...

Every system has (fun games). But it's not about power or (fun games). It's about marketing. Sony really got people caught up in the hype.
They had to, though. Without Playstation, they'd be bankrupt.

It'll be nice for PS2 owners when GTA3 and MGS2 hit greatest hits status.

I don't know about you guys, but I get more fulfillment out of playing good old NES or SNES games. . .

Now all I have to do is wait until they shrink the PS2 down to the size of the PSONE, and clear it out for $99, and I'm set. The future looks pretty sweet.

hey now! i love my ps2! granted, i wouldn't have purchased it for full retail price, but virgin had great prices over christmas

How did Dark Cloud get on there? That game was absolute crap! Gotta have been one of the worst buys I ever made for any videogame system.

They also announced that the price of the PS2 will drop then as well. I don't think they said a price, but they did say it would drop.

Err, but I think you are in part to be blamed for this... 😀

This is a little OT, but I was at my local Blockbuster and couldn't believe the prices they had on used games, and the "newness" of them. They had multiple copies of Jax and Daxter, Baulders Gate, Max Payne, Maximo, and a few others, all for $29.99. I thought this was a pretty hot deal. I think Metal Gear Solid 2 was down to $19.99.

Expect to see these in the greatest hit soon:

Final Fantasy X - 2,434,000
Onimusha - 982,000
Everybody's Golf 3 - 871,000
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - 750,000
Shin Sangoku Musou 2 - 727,000
Mobile Suit Gundami: Federation Zion 654,000
Devil May Cry - 616,000
World Soccer Winning Eleven 5 - 514,000
Virtua Fighter 4 - 452,000
Momotaron Dentei X - 450,000

Also, I would expect Grand Theft Auto 3, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3. Couldn't find any worldwide or american numbers, just this site with japanese numbers for 2001. Anyone know where to find up to date numbers??

Also, not related, but World Rally Championship is coming out in the US next month. Its been out in Europe for a while and has gotten good reviews.

Yes, you're right.
<lowers head in shame>
I needed a game, it was a spur of the moment buy. God do I regret buying that one.

Cool. Is there an official link to this?

So they have raised greatest hits' price from $19.99 in the PS era to $25 for PS2.
How can we accept this price hike? But it is a good price point.

But some of these games are pretty new... VF4, that'll be another 9months at least. I'm not too familiar with the greatest hits, but does all game become the greatest hits once it meet the requirements? I would think that they would want to milk as much as then can from games like VF4 and FFX. There are current PSX games that are over 9months and have sold over 400,000 that are still being sold as regluar games. I think one of the is FFIX...

Regular PSX Game - $40
Greatest Hits PSX Game - $20

Regular PS2 Game - $50
Greatest Hits PS2 Game - $25

It's not that they are hiking prices, its that they are making the same percentage cut.
