Hello, I've been coming to anandtech.com for years, but only just now decided to take part in the conversation after what seemed impossible (someone in Real Life that knew more about computers then I know
) (Well that person was not the type that looked like they would know anything :/ )
Anyway, to keep it to a point:
I don't understand the relationship that FSB and RAM speeds have with each other, I thought I knew, but it seems I'm in the dark. (I tried to WiKi and everything, but I just can't grasp it for some reason) What's all this 800Mhz FSB is really running in quad speeds (4x 200?) does the FSB speed have to match the RAM speeds?. Why are motherboard FSB speeds up to 1060 and soon 1333 and RAM only 800Mhz, etc. I don't know enuff about the stuff to know what questions to ask really. If someone could brake this down for me I will be forever thankful.
The other request is for hardware configuration help.
I am running an old processor/mobo and thought it's time for an update. I have spend alot of time on the net recently reading what is what and who is who. I'm pretty sure i've decided on the CPU and the motherboard, but not sure what RAM to get to fit this setup perfectly.
I thought about getting the "Asus Striker Extreme" if it ever comes out! (takin forever) and a Core Duo E6600 (2.4Ghz) I went with this decision because of all the great features the board will provide as well as the mazing over clocking possibilities, and Core Duo seems like a clear choice, esp the 4MB 2.4Ghz version which should over clock like a donkey workin a 12 hour day.
I am not looking to buy a Intel Quad cause I don't need a super computer, I am however willing to spend on the board as it seems like a clear choice for longevity of the system.
I was also hoping to over clock the system to 3.0 Ghz and get the most out of the FSB, so I am not dedicated to the E6600, but it seems like the best deal.
Recently this dude that I didn't expect to know went as far as to suggest a batch number (something that ends with B) for the Core Duo as it supposedly clocks the highest with least voltage usage, what do you think about that? and he did mention DDR1 as the RAM of choice because of something along the high clock speeds, not really sure what he was going on about, not sure if its true etc. (Some detailed information in the CPU/RAM combo would be appreciated) Not sure if I should buy RAM that's rated at 1100 so that i have the most over clocking success or what? (Can someone elaborate?)
Video card and HD are not really tuff choices here, going to use a free upgrade I got on VIdeo to get a GeForce 7 7600GS and a new gen SATA HD.
Please help me clear up these things that I am sure most of you know what is best for the CPU/Mobo combo.
Thank You very much for help in advance
