Coming back to DC

I saw the recruitment thread in the Operating Systems forum and it motivated me to get back into Distributed Computing. I'm running Ubuntu and as it turns out BOINC is in the default repositories (at least for Feisty Fawn) so it's pretty simple to install the BOINC client and manager. However, when I input the project URL (http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/) the client sits there a while communicating with the server then errors with 'Failed to attach to project'. However, if I run 'top' I can see rosetta using 99% of the CPU and I can see the 2 systems I added on the website (http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/hosts_user.php). One odd thing is one of the names is wrong - it's saying 'localhost' and should be 'Home-T43-Ubuntu'.

A big wave to everyone! 😀

Welcome back! 😀

Are you using the latest BOINC client? That sounds like the same issue we used to have with the last client....or maybe they didn't "fix" the Linux client. No worries, that error can be ignored 99.9% of the time....especially if you see work being crunched in BOINC MGR. 🙂

So I can ignore that error? Cool. 🙂 I think I'm running version 'rosetta_5.54_i686'. It's whatever version is in the Fiesty repositories.

An upgrade to a 3.4EE is tempting but my funds are just too tight and that system is just a file server at the moment.
