of all the asguardian gods, why pick Thor as a comic title?

Odin would have been the natural choice, being the head huncho.

No because Odin has more important things to do then save humanity.

Because you have a much more dynamic story and character development if you use someone who's not totally perfect and all-powerful?

"Hey, let's make a sitcom staring God!"

"Can't he just snap his fingers and have everything work its way out?"

"Yeah, I figured a 15-second runtime for each episode..."

Because he is the supreme commander of the Asguard Fleet, and because he has hooked up the SGC with some cool technology. :p

Read the mythology... Odin is very similar to Zues... he caused as many problems for people as he fixed... Thor is more of a peoples god... kind of like Hercules in a way... Norse mythology is extremely interesting and though more bleak and blood various parellels are apparent. If you read about it you will fill like it is a retelling of various greek myths.

Thor is the angsty kid that's lashing out against dad by helping humanity

Because he has a kick-ass name. All of my computers are named after Thor, and I make it the middle name of my first son. My wife is adamantly opposed to that, but hopefully she's drugged up pretty good when they're filling out the birth certificate.
