Comic books for kids (1st grade)?

About a month ago, NPR had someone on and they were talking about comic books for kids. I think Marvel made them. Maybe DC Comics. I forget which.

But they are intended for young readers. My son is in 1st grade and I thought it would be a great thing for him to try.

I can not recall if it was a graphic novel or a comic book series. I almost think it was a graphic novel intended for young readers. It sounded fantastic.

Does anyone know I am referring to?

EDIT: A few minutes of Googling. Am I thinkg of The Super Hero Squad? http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/mee...85?ean=9780316055727&itm=7&usri=graphic+novel

Start 'em off with The Walking Dead. You gotta train 'em about the dangers of the Zombie Apocalypse early 🙂

Actually, I think that I'd go with the "classics" like Spiderman and Batman.

My son is in first grade. He gets a lot of different comics. What you are looking for is the labeling. The comics that are good for kids are labeled with something like Rated E for Everyone or All Ages.

Some cover shots for reference:

Does anyone else think its kinda...strange...that comic publishers are now making comics SPECIFICALLY targeted to kids?
