Looking to add a comic series to my regular reading material.

I like most anything fictitious, but sci-fi and fantasy fiction are my preferred genre.

Primarily I want something that is easy to get a hold of (via internet or local comic store) from issue #1 so that I can start from the beginning.

Suggestions?

If you're not collecting, maybe just buy the collections or book editions? Like instead of buying issues #1-6 for a complete story just get the compilation. It's been a while but I liked the Dark Horse Star Wars: Dark Empire series ( I and II I think ).

I would say go with the trade paperbacks as well.
Support your local comics shop, but they probably won't have a huge selection, just what's most popular.

DC Vertigo, Dark Horse, fantagraphic all have series geared more for adults, but Superheroes have TP's too.

I really liked these, and they should be available as TP's at bookstores,Amacon or Comics shops

Sandman
Preacher
Hellraiser
Books of Magic
Hellboy
Bone
Madman
EightBall
Optic Nerve
Big Guy and Rusty the boy robot
Grendel

Those are the first I can think of...
