The song is about shooting heroin, by the way.

"Ok.
Just a little pinprick.
There'll be no more ...Aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working. Good.
That'll keep you going for the show.
Come on it's time to go."

Of course those who don't want to believe that will invent their own meaning for the song, and the band isn't going to come out and publicly say that their well-selling album has drug references all over it. But let's face it, we know that rockstars party like, uh rockstars, and pink floyd was well known as a "high" band.

Purple Haze was about weed, so...

The guitar riff in the song is great... Gilmour was a pretty good guitarist, a bit underrated in my opinion.

Die hard Floyd fan here, and jman was right. Gilmour is a musical genious. Some of my favorite Floyd is after Waters left the band. Momentary Lapse of Reason(my AIM and Yahoo handles haha), The Division Bell, etc. I also like some of their older stuff.....See Emily Play, Point Me At the Sky, etc. And then the classic stuff...Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, WISH YOU WERE HERE(best album and song ever).

Your theory is what people say when they want to sound impressive but don't actually know what is going on. Sure it does sound like a drug reference but if you seen "The Wall" or actually pay attention to the lyrics they seem to tell a different story.

Drug use would be kind of like a shallow easy interpertation of the lyrics, the 'real' story of what's going on is a bit different.

floyd is a great band.

I like wish you were here more but comfortably numb is up there amongst the favorite songs.

uhm, the track is from a concept album about a rock star. they're drugging him up to do the show.

I'm thinking of the one by Pink Floyd... if they're talking about another one, then I take back my statement about liking it.

As far as I know, no one else (famous) have covered the song 🙂 Might be wrong though

Scissor Sisters did a cover of it, and it blows! I skip that track everytime.
same here, I hate their version.

The stuff where they're imitating Elton John isn't too bad though

Up from dead.. I can't stop listening to it 😛

The live version from Echoes: The Best Of is awesome!! Mmmmm 8:56 of goodness!!

Well, that little lyrical quote is suppose to be the tour manager (or some promoter type) giving Pink a little "pick me up" to help him perform. Watch the movie and you'll get a better feel for the story. It is supposed to be ficticious but I suspect there's a little Pink in all of them...probably moreso in Roger Waters though. Or shades of Syd Barrett maybe?
