Comfortably Numb

I'm thinking of the one by Pink Floyd... if they're talking about another one, then I take back my statement about liking it.

As far as I know, no one else (famous) have covered the song 🙂 Might be wrong though

The song is about shooting heroin, by the way.

"Ok.
Just a little pinprick.
There'll be no more ...Aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working. Good.
That'll keep you going for the show.
Come on it's time to go."

Of course those who don't want to believe that will invent their own meaning for the song, and the band isn't going to come out and publicly say that their well-selling album has drug references all over it. But let's face it, we know that rockstars party like, uh rockstars, and pink floyd was well known as a "high" band.

Yeah, and who freakin cares, except certain extremist right wing ultra-conservatives who want to convince our (I speak for the not-yet-adults in the audience) parents that any sort of "rock & roll" (or anything thereafter) is evil and will corrupt your children's minds with communism - even if the songs aren't about getting high as the space shuttle.

I managed to fit the entire Wall (both CDs) onto 1 CD. Pretty dang convenient.

I had the VHS tape for a while - pretty cool movie. Someone borrowed it and I never did get it back.

Scissor Sisters did a cover of it, and it blows! I skip that track everytime.

Ya know... I used to think that too... but when I got older, the lyrics seemed to not make as much sense in that context... it seemed to me more like a doctors visit or something.

Anyway... here is a site where they have a HUGE discussion on what the lyrics are.

I have never asked anyone in the band what the lyrics meant. But the link is fairly interesting.

🙂

If you've seen the movie, it's one of the more literal interpretations of a song in it. It's not about shooting heroin it's about the rock star who has a show to go to, but it strung out on drugs so badly that they've brought in a doctor to fix him up, but only good enough to get him to the show. It's also the climactic moment of transformation for the character.

Tool covered it. It's worth checking out. Pretty well done from what I remember.
