LOS ANGELES -- Comedian George Carlin is entering a drug rehabilitation facility to shake his dependence on wine and a painkiller.

His publicist released a statement Monday quoting Carlin as saying he uses "too much wine and Vicodin."

In the statement, Carlin said that no one told him to do this.

The 67-year-old comic said he realized he had a problem and took action himself.

Carlin, the author of the best-selling "When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?", said he's never been treated in a rehabilitation facility.

The name and location of the facility were not disclosed.

I hope his comedy isn't hurt by this! 🙁

Bah I could have told you the man was a drunk and pill popper 5 years before this news post 😛. Good thing he's getting some help though.

We're talking about a comedian here...

If anything his comedy will be even better.

Alcoholism and/or drug abuse is pretty much a prerequisite in the comedy business, right? 😀

I saw him on the Actor's Studio and he was talking about his darkest days of cocaine abuse: 7-8 grams a day! Half that a day would incapacitate a normal person.

That is crazy. However, Mr. George Jung has him beat with 10 grams in 10 minutes. And, before anyone asks, 7-8 grams is roughly $300 a day in cocaine. That's more than what most people make in a day :Q

And he also said he never got any treatment for cocaine. Means he probably shifted to alcohol and eventually got hooked on vicodin. You can't just expect to "quit" a big drug habit (like cocaine) without treatment.
