In Relation to This Thread

Ok.. Go download Google Earth at http://earth.google.com. Google finally released its product (rebadged Keyhole). It is FREE (although you can pay for a pro version).

So after you get it installed, and playing with it, show us some cool things!

For example: Plug these coordinates in: lat=48.8581715939, lon=2.29399145769

yeah this is definitely one of the coolest programs out there...and its free!
Google has got some real brains working over there. I wonder if their development is all in house or outsourced for things like this.

Hmm, this is really impressive, some of the locations are a bit off, and the information is flatout wrong (it was missing many gas stations which have been there for many many years) but overall, this is neat -- especially the 3D buildings thing. Wow.

3D buildings? The skyscrapers of Boston are still in flat 2D when set to a sideview.

Under layers, check the "3D Buildings" box.

Cool, but they should be skinned. :( They're ugly and grey.

the images are kinda old. also, when you search, I wish that the refresh would go faster so you can see the places your are flying past, instead of just seeing some blur.

3d buildings only works for a few US cities. This would be the bomb if they got it for everything. That will take a LOT of work though.

I think it streams the high-res images from Google's servers - which are probably slammed since it was just released today.
