Come on teamanandtech, help me choose

I've done a bunch of DC for the Team back in the days, but have been deployed to Afghanistan. Anyways, at my current location I can use real internet, so I have a 2.6 ghz celly laptop on its way. Whats a good non-seti DC project for me? keep in mind that it wont be always connected, just when I hook it up. Thanks!

If you have a fast connection, where bandwith isn't really the problem, I'd go for Lifemapper. 200 WUs in cache, nice CLI client, small project.

If the internet connection just sux, I'd go for Find A Drug. As many WUs in cache as you want, small WUs, send and receive whenever you want, worthy project.

I agree that folding@home is a great option! Please help us hold onto to our position!

all of the previously mentioned are great projects, you really cant go wrong picking one. however, if you dont know when you will be able to be back online and if you are even offline for months at a time, i recommend DPAD. i have a laptop that ive been running on for 3 months straight and i sneakernet the results to an internet connected pc every couple of weeks. if you are off for long periods of time, DPAD is probably your best bet, but like i said earlier all of these projects are fantastic and offer caching so you really cant go wrong

Got to agree with Unforgiven here. DPAD is definitly the one and only DC project you can run indipendently for ever on a PC with no connection to the internet. (Unless they change the DPAD version and you just have to turn in your resluts in order for them to get credited)

Agree, DPAD is one in a million! 😀 Lifemapper is also very cool! My XP2600 does one wu in 13min , so with a cache of 200, you can go for two days or so. The wu is almost 500kb each, so on a slow connection you'll have a while for the up and download.

Some projects have time limits on the wu, and if a wu isn't returned in a certain amount of time, it gets discarded. Not sure what projects...

So can you maybe give us a little more info on your connections and how frequently you'll connect to the inet.

Anyhow, welcome back to DC! 😀
