And my old G4 can't do any of that.

I really wanted to wait until January for Nehalem (which would mean my Powerbook was about 3 years old anyway) but I don't think I can wait that long. But at least throw me a bone and refresh them sometime soooooon!

ARG!

Are they not good enough now? Though I do have to admit that I'll probably move up to Nehalem when they come out with them in Macbooks. :p

I wouldn't count on Nehalem until in late Q2 or early Q3. I expect a Monteiva update before the end of the summer, and Nehalem MBP's MIGHT be announced at MW2009 but I doubt it. Intel is currently expecting to ship it Q2 and announcing at the beginning of Q1 would KILL laptop sales.

So either resign yourself to your current PB or pick one up now. Monteiva isn't going to be that big of an update.

Well, if Apple is going to be competitive with Dell concerning the specs of their Montevina laptops, then the refresh should be quite nice. Personally, I'd wait.

I'm in the same boat as you - a MBP would provide me some portability AND give me a nice, flexible development platform. Plus, OS X is always a pleasure to use. The only things really holding me back are the price premium and the fact that I don't actually have an iPhone, so it's harder to justify the price premium. If I don't have an iPhone, I'm not as motivated to develop for it. Damn AT&T for making their prices even MORE ludicrously expensive, lol :p

The montevina's aren't too far off. Apple's current promo of getting a free iPod Touch with any computer purchase ends on July 15. Montevina comes out some time before that (July 12 I think? not sure). Putting two and two together, I think it's safe to bet that the MBP refresh should come out in July. I'm betting that they'll be officially announced within a week of their iPod Touch promo ending.

yeah, but they might be delayed given intel has finally cleared up the issues they had. Which sucks for school (assuming the macbook would get a refresh too). I really hate buying w/in months of refreshes. 6 months, I'm ok. but we'll see. Heh, I dunno why I care, the system isn't even for me, ha

I wonder when we'll see a Quad-core MacBook Pro. My hope is they start making 4GB SODIMMs so that I can slap 8gb of RAM in there along with one of those great MCEtech 1TB kits for the 17" MBP. I wouldn't need a desktop anymore, haha!

I think we'll see quad core in Nehalem, and Quad vs Dual will be a differentiating factor in the MBP and MB.

that would cost a fortune no doubt. I would a 15" macbook pro, w/ the air styling... with a quad core... and a 512MB vid card... still at $1999.
