I wish Comcast has real competition. They do shit like this because a lot of the time they are the only game in town.

Seems legit. One is cable and the other is internet. They are totally different.

They'll come up with a fee for deciding to have them do 2 simultaneous installs eventually. Double Play fee! $40 per install plus double play service fee!

If your friend lives in a state with a decent public utility regulator complain to them. Comcast should have quoted the correct fee in the first place, that was deceptive the way they did it.

I would just call them and tell them you were quoted $40 and charged $80...I would be surprised if they didn't just apologize and refund $40.

I have succeeded following such steps.

Recently, we shut down Comcast under my name and opened just the Internet using my daughter (allowed a promo).

They screwed up the equipment return (did not close out the service) and continued to charge for 3 months.

Then they pulled the plug (late/non payment)

We took the equipment return receipt in and they cleared the bill.
But they wanted to charge a reconnect fee for the Internet.
When we pointed out to them that the Internet payments were up to date, they back off.

Moral - if you have the documentation and are polite/insistent, you can succeed
