Comcast's new 8Mbps

Hello everyone, I have a few questions I would like to ask about the new speed that comcast is offering.

First off before now I have had the fastest that Comcast offers which is what I beleive to be 7Mbps. Recently they have been advertiseing an 8Mbps. So I was thinking will I be able to see and feel this difference when I upgrade. They are offering the upgrade free for 3 months so I intend to try it. But first I wanted to know what actual speeds I was getting beforehand so that I could see the difference. After some searching I found a speed test through wiki and this is the one I ended up using.

And here are my results after 8 tests.

736.56/5892.24--------44.64/357.12
791.48/6331.84--------44.64/357.36
773.66/6189.28--------44.75/358.00
761.14/6089.12--------44.61/356.88
786.88/6295.04--------44.78/358.24
717.72/5741.76--------44.61/356.88
689.15/5513.20--------44.75/358.00
725.17/5801.36--------44.72/357.76

I should also note, I am on a laptop that is connected wired to my router. linksy wrtg 54g or somthing to that effect.

First question are these numbers good and are they on par to what I am supposed to have?

Second question is will the newly advertised 8Mbps improve these numbers?

Third question I am in michigan and when selecting the place there were three for the u.s.a (pacific, middle and atlantic coast) I chose atlantic, should I have picked middle? And should I have used another service for measuring?

Any and all insight into this matter is welcome. Anything I didnt think of and whatever you think I need to know would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all your help.

I just wanted to update this with the new numbers after I went ahead and upgraded. I notice there is some better download speed but the cake comes when I noticed my upload speeds effectively doubled.

So what do you guys think of this. Those uploads speed are what really suprised me.

We never get quite what is advertised - and we have to be very careful of speed terminology. Having said that - this ain't bad!

I get pretty decent speeds with comcast. Seems like they bumped us to 8Mb already. I get my best speeds from usenet servers usually. Occasionally my speed goes crazy and I get 1MB/s downloads.

I'd think that jumping from 7Mbit to 8 would make little to no difference except in just a few citcumstances, like large downloads from places with excellent bandwidth, like usenet.
