comcast

my $19.99 / month HSI promo was over, so I called comcast to "cancel"

I think i just got the best deal ever.

$65/month for HSI/Digital Cable/HBO/Showtime/HD-DVR for 12 months

their joke for a customer support gives me nightmares. maybe I just had bad luck... but everytime I called in I wished I hadnt. So much better once I moved to speakeasy.
Oh, this was at my old place btw.

Did the CSR just give you all that or did you have to haggle.

she just gave it to me after I told her I was going to switch to another provider

I was surprised, usually I have to call in 2 or 3 times before I get a decent retention deal. This one blew me away.

cable is so over priced! I pay $60/month for 8Mbit/sec cable connection (usually runs 7Mbit) and Extended Cable TV, no HBO/Showtime for me.

I pay $53 for 3 Mbit (currently 5 Mbit "Preview"). Cheapest TV would be another $30 or so. I wish they'd run fiber through here.

this friday we're switching from comcast hsi + tv to verizon fios.

comcast: 5mb/1mb + basic digital + 2 x hd-dvr = ~$104/mo
verizon: 20mb/5mb + basic digital (w/ more channels) + 2 x hd-dvr + phone (unlimited in US) = ~$118/mo + $100 rebate

the prices will change after a year at which time we'll either switch back to comcast or just tell verizon we're going to do that.

I'm paying $90/month right now for 30 mps internet, digital cable (basic w/ a dual-tuner hd-dvr), and phone.

I'd really much rather have fios (my experience with optimum thus far has been really shitty, capping off this week with them breaking my service on monday and, as of wednesday, still haven't fixed it yet), but my landlord threw a shitfit when I told him I wanted fios and it just wasn't worth the headache.

I'm using comcast and also just did the cancel thing, and I'm paying $45 a month for Internet, cable, HBO, Starz and HD cable box (not the DVR)

yes, fios -can't wait to get it in my area to try it out

Bah I had a similar deal that just ended. It was 49.95/mo for The digital starter package + HBO + HSI. After the deal was up this increased to 100+ so I grabbed the 19.99 HSI deal which dropped it to 91/mo. I just called last night and downgraded to basic cable which brings my total bill to 38/mo. Once the 19.99 HSI deal is over I'll call and see what packages they have available.

I would love to be able to get this deal but I really don't want to cancel Comcast and what do I say if they decide that they aren't going to try to persuade me to stay? That would be just my luck.

edit: I pay well over $100/mo for a HD DVR and HSI.
