I went to the router's administration setting by typing 10.0.0.1 (class A private address) in the browser.

The router failed to recognize the printer as an attached to device.

Back on my old Netgear router, the printer's IP address was 192.168.1.45 (class C private address).

When I try to install the driver (Full Driver & Software Package), http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=hl2270dw_all&os=93, it detects nothing over the network.

Also on the port where I've connected to printer to the router's switch port, there is an orange light, instead of a green light.

The comcast/infinity router is able to function well with a computer with a wireless PCI card as well.

On the previous router, did you have the printer set for a static IP address, or DHCP?

I'm pretty sure it was DHCP, since it came up automatically, during the driver installation.

Pinging 192.168.1.45 returned nothing.

I'd say the router is the culprit, and Comcast may deny to help, since they'll say it's not their responsibility to printer configuration. I'd like to only contact them as a last resort.

Try to assign the printer with a Static IP like 10.0.0.10

Should I assign it in the Router's browser control panel (http://10.0.0.1) ? If so, how would I obtain the printer's MAC address? Since the panel is asking for it.

Also when I try to install the printer driver, the first option that comes up, is how the printer is connected.

In which case, it's through an ethernet cord: http://i.imgur.com/dpIwhAR.jpg

I then select P2P, since the printer isn't connected directly to another printer,
it's connected to directly to one of the router's switch ports: http://i.imgur.com/rGMIa52.jpg

A warning dialog box, comes up, warning against firewalls: http://i.imgur.com/agjqVEF.jpg
I've disabled my Avast anti-virus (for 1 hour), and I've gone to the extreme to block the router's firewall: http://i.imgur.com/B6GFxV1.jpg

Windows 7 firewall is also disabled as well.

I've now reached a dead end, and the driver install is unsucessful: http://i.imgur.com/wbtb5Ze.jpg

It is, ultimately, not a router's job to attempt to recognize what devices are connected to it. Most modern consumer routers have this capability, but in my experience it doesn't always work perfectly. I would not say it's clear, at this point, that there is anything wrong with your router.

First thing I would try is to reset your printer to factory settings and retry the driver installation.

Thanks so much for this most useful post. I was able to get the MAC address of the printer ethernet port. After resetting the printer (I know because I unintentionally set it to Wi-Fi, with no luck, and the wired port was re-enabled), the printer's IP 10.0.0.45, was able to show up in the installation :).
