Comcast vs. DirecTV

OK here's the deal. I'm moving into a new place and signing up for new service. I definitely want high-speed internet and some sort of digital TV service with HD and DVR. I could care less about wireline phone service.

So initially I was planning on getting Verizon DSL ($30/month) and DirecTV with HD DVR and Sunday Ticket. I really REALLY want Sunday Ticket because I'm a Panther fan moving into Redskins/Ravens country. Plus they have a good promotion where right now I only pay $70/month for Sunday Ticket and everything else (Total Choice Premier) is included free.

But alas, things can never be that simple. Verizon DSL isn't even available in my area (neither is FiOS, doh!) so the only option for Internet is Comcast. Lo and behold, those robbers charge $58/month for their cheapest broadband service!! Of course, if I were to get digital cable AND internet AND voip I only pay $99/month.

So do I have any other options? Or do I just bite the bullet and pay the $60/month for internet + $70/month ($100/month after the season) for DirecTV?

Cliffs:
- DirecTV with HD DVR, Sunday Ticket and Comcast broadband = $300 + $130-160/month
- Comcast with digital plus package, DVR, broadband, voip = $110/month

Is it worth the extra money just for Sunday Ticket???

I am in the same situation here. I have comcast for internet and directv. I could get bellsouth DSL for $40/month but then I have to add in the $25 basic phone charge.

We get AT&T DSL for $33 (this includes the phoneline they make you get). Not a bad alternative. Trust me, when you are watchin' your panthers in HD on Sunday you'll forget about the DSL cost.

***Bears Fan***....Damn Panthers!

if you read the post, he said he can't get DSL

its only money, if you think that you will really watch the Sunday Ticket each week, then get it, although I hope that you will also really watch all of those movie channels in the TC Premier package, are these even comparable? What about if you got the Total Choice Plus package and just added Sunday Ticket plus Comcast Internet? (basically, are you making an equal comparision with the comcast movie packages, especially after the season?) look at your yearly costs because I don't think that they will let you drop the Premier after the season, I think you are obligated for at least one year (maybe two?)..

According to the fine print, I'm required to have 2 years of uninterrupted service, but the contract says any plan $29.99 and up qualifies for the uninterrupted service requirement.

It doesn't make sense NOT to get Premier, because Premier is free for four months (I'm just paying the additional $70/mo for Sunday Ticket.)

Now here's another catch...apparently I don't get Sunday Ticket games in HD unless I pay extra for the Super Fan pack :(

I guess here are my priorities in order:

1. Gotta have high-speed internet (2 mbps or better)
2. Gotta have HD channels (the more the merrier!)--not sure if I care about local
3. Gotta have DVR
4. Budget is about $150/month, but it'd be nice to come in cheaper
5. Sunday Ticket!!! Panthers games!!!

I would consider a SlingBox, but I know for a fact that the broadband my parents in Charlotte have is HORRIBLE--we're talking 256kbps upload max. If they had 1mbps up, I'd go for the SlingBox and ignore Sunday ticket.
