Thought I'd post this here. Just read over on broadbandreports.com there is going to be another upgrade to those of us on Comcast cable.

From what I gather it will be 4mbit and 384 "which is an improvement in the upload speeds.. FINALLY"

For 10.00 a mo. You will be able to get a package that is 5mbit and 768 upload..

This is what i'm going for.. 768 is too good to pass up for that amount. It'll finally mean I can host a reasonable game server instead of being limited to 3-4 players.

Anyways... Just lettin ya'll know

more info spread across 3-4 threads here..

Some folk back east have already received this upgrade.

Well.. on current connection running BF42/DC we can get about 6 max if all are low ping.

I'd think 12-14 would be pretty safe on 768. Figure most t1's are 1.5 up max and usually will host 20 players.

That's cool. Does comcast mind if you run a 24/7 dedicated server on their service? That'd be worth my extra $10/mo.

And DC is more of a hog than, say, CS:S isn't it? What kind of CS:S server do you think one could get goin on those speeds? Sorry for the newb questions and thanks for the answers 🙂

We had an 18 person CSS on a 640K upload.. I don't recall it having much problems.

I imagine a 24/7 busy server might tick Comcast off.. but I figure your payin them.. and it appears they have quite a bit of bandwidth left "or they probably wouldn't be upgrading" I host many types of games.. but rarely do I host 24/7 just being able to have quite a few people play is worth the cost.. I get tired of lag when I'm pinging 30ms and someone with 140ms joins.. whacks the whole server. With the increase.. that should not be quite as much problem.

i'm a Comcast installer, I havent heard any new of this yet, but i will be sure to find out.. report back in a few days
