I did some research, and in my area, the two reasonably-priced digital cable plans (classic and plus) offer relatively crappy channel lineups compared to DirecTV (which matches comcast's premium, as in obscenely-expensive, lineup). Apparently I would need a digital cable box with every TV too ($6/month extra), so there is no advantage over satellite in that respect.

Summary: satellite offers more channels at the same price.

See, if comcast had just left the scifi channel where it was... they wouldn't have lost a customer
