So I am in the process of moving into a new apartment and signed up with the local Comcast rep to have high speed internet installed the day my lease starts three days ago. When the time my installation should've happened rolled around I received a phone call from another Comcast rep:
"Hi, is this _____?"
"Yes"
"Hi, I just canceled your installation appointment because you have money you owe us. The technician should have caught this... Can you verify these two addresses? <Tells addresses>"
"What? Why did you cancel my appointment? I've never lived in either of those places before."
"Well, now you're going to have to go to the Cable Store with your SSN card and drivers license and fill out a fraud form."
"What the hell are you talking about? Do these guys have the same SSN as me?"
"Yes."
"BS."
So, I went to the Cable Store after calling back the rep that I had signed up for the high speed internet under in hopes of sorting it out (my SSN card is at my parents' house):
"How can I help you?"
"You guys are saying I have two accounts linked to my name"
"Let me check."
"Well, it seems that there's only one other person with your name with active standing and a different SSN. However, there are two dead accounts that we think might be you. Do you have your SSN and drivers license?"
"It's at my parent's house, why should I have to show my SSN in the first place if I gave my info prior saying its not me?"
"Well, if you have nothing to hide you'd show it so we can clear you."
"How do you sort your database?"
"First and last name w/ SSN"
"Are those two accounts linked with the same SSN?"
"No."
"...bye."
So now I have to wait until Monday to get this cleared up and schedule another appointment. I <3 Comcast.
