Comcast - problems with their website and sorry customer service

For awhile, when going to the www.comcast.net website, it would give me a pop up window no more than 3 times that I'd have to close, asking me if I wanted to install Flash. Then at one point a just a few months ago, they changed the look a little bit, and it started giving me 3 pop ups plus 7 more after logging in. All for Flash, and it does this every time, if you're not logged in. 10 total! I originally didn't think I had Flash installed on this PC and didn't want to install it since the PC I'm referring to is at work. Most sites have non-flash versions of their pages also. I emailed Comcast tech support asking if there was any way to stop this, and with my first email and all my replies, I got a canned and/or worthless reply. With most of their replies, they surely hadn't actually read my previous email.

Their emails have a disclaimer saying their email can not be used in any other way, so I don't guess I can post them. But here is my version of mine and their emails.

Me:
Is there any way to stop the Comcast home page from asking me if I want to install Flash Player 6, without installing it? It used to ask me once after every time I logged in. Since you did a slight re-design a week or two ago, it now asks 3 times each time!
Them:
Told me to DL Flash and disable install on demand.
Me:
I told them it was already disabled and I said that's why it's prompting me to install Flash, and asked if I can keep it from asking.
Them:
Told me the Flash pop up appears because their page uses Flash (Duh), and told me it was harmless to download (not true).
Me:
Told them I already have an always had Flash 6 installed. I told them many sites have a non-Flash version also, for people without Flash. I told them I don't want to install Flash on my employers PC.
Them:
Told me their webpage uses Flash and it will prompt me to download every time if I don't have it.
Me:
I told them to re-read previous email where I stated I already have Flash installed.
Them: (In very broken English, I'll translate...)
Told me their site requires Flash to be installed, there is no non-Flash version and they don't know of a way to turn off the prompt to get Flash. Told me I can try a third party website to get my email(!?).
Me:
I told them how frustrating this is, asked if they read my email or not, or if they just didn't understand what I'm saying, and told them in all caps with a few *'s on both sides of the text that I already had and still have Flash installed.
Them:
Told me to uninstall and reinstall Flash.

In one of the last emails they sent, they told me I could snail mail the head office to make a complaint or suggestion, and gave me the address.

The pop up has since changed to asking for Flash 7.

I haven't even had the time try their uninstall/reinstall, and don't really want to mess with it on this PC. Does anyone know why I would have gotten their pop ups about Flash 6 when I already had it installed? And does anyone know how to defeat the pop ups if you don't have Flash isntalled?

Is it necessary to bump a rant?

Also, can you describe what these "popups" were? Were they actually popups, or just the built-in internet explorer thing that asks you if you want to auto-install the plugin.

Yes, because I also asked questions.

The window:

Comcast customer service sucks. I moved recently and cancelled our cable and internet. They gave a credit for about $35 on the account and said the check would be mailed within 4 weeks. After 5 phone calls and three months waiting I got my check. Bastards!

Just install it and quit whining. 🙂
Uh, no. Guess you didn't read me post. This PC is at work. I'm not installing it.

Rather a long post for a small problem 😛
If you had to close a window 10 times each time you wanted to check your email, you might think otherwise. 😛
Also part of the reason of the post was to show Comcast's tech support.

Forget why and why not's, everything else aside, can someone confirm if there is any to to stop these pop ups when visiting comcast.net with IE 6, without installing Flash?

I don't know how it would work, but Avant browser has an option to disable flash.

Plus, Comcast is the home for way too many spammers. Lately, I've been taking great pleasure in reporting spammers back to their home ISP for TOS violation. Comcast seems to source about half of the spams I get - and it appears that they just honestly don't care...
