the only time you'll see the "burst" speed is when you first start downloading updates from microsoft's website.

Re: 64,000 kbps! It's Comstupid!

Yup, now Comcast can say that they are 500 times faster then DSL for 0.01 of a second.

Is that all? My University (back in 1998/1999) gave me 1Mb/sec speeds in the early hours.

Bah.. I just graduated and my damn school didn't even give me those speeds. About 1/3 of that.

Yea, I would love more upload on my earthlink connection. It sucks when some progs eat up the upload speed and start lagging up surfing or games.

Heh...Not sure why anyone is going much over 10Mb yet. I work for a national ISP infrastructure and can honestly say that 90% of websites cap themselves at 3Mb. So, you're going to have a lot of unused speed for a year or two yet.

Agreed. Frankly anything over 1mbps isn't really getting used by me anyway so I couldn't card less when they upgrade the download from "more then enough" to "way more then enough". 384kbps upload beats the fvcking 256k they had before...but I'd gladly give up some download bandwidth for a more even upload.

They probably do this precisely because of that fact. Its easy to say that your network is 10Mbps down when virtually none of your customers will ever use that much because of extraneous limits.

I've got that SUSTAINED on Comcast's network back at the 'rents, and have had for quite some time. Something to do with the topology, I'd assume.

The modem did, however, go down for a reflash yesterday. I guess this is what's behind that. I'm still the first one they call when the intarweb goes down. "Uhhh, is my number 1-800-COMCAST?"

I firmly believe this is why the cable crooks are opening the pipes; Fios is killing them. I was soooo happy to call the coxs down at Cox's Cable and tell them where they could put their additional $15/month for broadband if you are not a cable subscriber...

Yet people whine about $3/gallon gas and so-called "gouging." ...and happily pay these clowns more money for the same service as others. Funny. :)

1MB/sec = 8 Mb/s. are you sure you went to college? ;)

 what???

8 bits to a byte. i can only assume Phil meant bytes, since 1 megabit per second is numbingly slow and isn't worth bragging about. either that or my sarcasm meter is broken!

Yes, but it's only good with a single file download on a single connection. If you use a file downloading tool with multiple connections it will max out very quickly on the first file and all the subsequent files will be the normal speed.

They should just up the bandwidth overall. I suspect they are just postponing the inevitable, until FIOS makes more inroads in the Broadand market.
