Comcast plans to only let me use the internet for 11 hours a month....before I have to pay more money?

At my new connection speeds I can download 300 Gb in 11 hours. If Comcast institutes their new bandwidth tiers then I can only use my internet for 11 hours a month and then I have to pay more.

What a racket!

250GB limit is quite a bit. Even if you newsgroup all your TV shows and watch a few movies, you wouldn't even hit that limit. Ok, so you want 10gb 1080p rips? Download 25 of them and watch 25 movies a month? That's ridiculous. I don't think anyone has the time for that.

Honestly, this is not an issue compared to AT&T where you hit your cap in 20 minutes with LTE speeds.

Yeah, no kidding. I was worried about the 250GB cap when I switched to Comcast 18 months ago, but I've only come close to it once, and that's with a household full of users.

You use more, you pay more. Pretty simple concept.

Well, its because they want to postpone the infrastructure upgrades they should have done 20 years ago while charging the customer more money for less service. Government mandated monopolies are the suck. :(

Pretty typical post from this particular OP.

WTF! I want to drive to Florida and back but car doesn't hold enough gas! WTF was Ford thinking?

Good lord. Data isn't free. Pay for what you use.

I wish he'd have bought better insurance so he could have been too busy at his job to post this stupid shit.

People complain about the caps every time i see anything about more speed, saying its useless....but for most people it definitely isn't useless. If I'm going to download something thats 10gb, even if I only need to do it once a month, I want that 10gb QUICKLY.

People that sap their connection, regardless of speed, 24x7 are the whole reason comcast and other providers are mad about abuse.

Well, for a wired connection, it really pretty much is.

Fact: Capped data plans hurt the consumer, hurt economic development, and stagnate growth.

A 300GB/month limit may seem high now, but imagine if we'd done things right. Everything should be data, 'network' television should all be streamed from the Internet, television shows should all be streamed from the Internet, movies should all be streamable from the Internet, and all in a timely fashion. And all in HD, 1080P or better.

^ We're not there because US telco's failed to make the necessary infrastructure upgrades, with tax payer money. Your attitude is part of the reason why the USA is bottom ranked for Internet speeds.

Yes, but you missed the point I was making. I can't download 24x7. With a 300 Gb cap I can only download for 11 hours in an entire month! So with such a limited time online how can I be hurting anyone else. The very high speed keeps me either off the internet entirely for 59/60ths of a month. Or if I use just a tiny fraction of my speed I can stay on the whole month. But with the bandwidth doubled the 250 Gb. cap should be doubled.

Isn't the point that they got rid of the cap? The point is you have to pay more for more data?

Are you running a 24*7 torrent box?

10Gb a day seems like an OK allowance for downloading.

that's low.. thats not even 4 HD movie clips.

the average 1080P clip for 30-45 mins is 2-3gigs each..
I'm sorry but I use 20+ gigs a month even on my phone..

it should be terabytes in today's HD world.
I can easily download 300+ gigs a day if i download HD vids all day long.

I do.. Vid games are easily 10 gigs each+ now..
I buy everything off Steam..
HD movies are also bought as downloads now..
as is netflix and god forbid HD Porn..

add On demand and other streaming.. and boom way over.

if I have to reformat a box and want all my Steam games reloaded thats an easy 1 terabyte..

Yes, that's the point I am making.
I have a secondary 3 Mbit service I get essentially for free with my phone service. In order to download even 60 Gb a month I have to be on it continuosly downloading at full speed.

So, I am doing more to interfere with other peoples speeds with my much slower connection since I have to be on it far, far more to download a reasonable amount.

So, a 300 Gb cap on my 60 Mbit connection is bullshit because there is no way I am on it enough to interfere with other users.

While I agree 300gb is enough for most people, I think the principle is the issue here... Why do you still have a download cap in 2012? Everywhere in Europe (and Asia too probably), people have fast, cheap and unlimited internet... Heck I live in Portugal which is pretty much a 2nd world country and Ive had unlimited internet since 2006 or something, dont even remember because its been so long
