Comcast Personal Web Service

Ok, so I'd like to use the web service that comes included with my Comcast service. I'd like to use it to have custom coops I've made up for Forgotten Battles/Ace Expansion Pack/Pacific Fighters hosted there.

I've got a flight sim site hosting my almost 2 year old version of Luckyboy's Guide For Complete Users. I plan on updating it in the fall of 2006 and I'm also writing up Luckyboy's Guide For Completely Wet Users, which will be a guide to water cooling principals. Both of these will take advantage of my new digital camera that is 8 Mp per if possible.

I'd also like to have a couple forums. Is any of this possible? If so, how? I'd like it to look kinda like the www.airwarfare.com site if possible.

Most ISP's provide a small folder on a web server for your use, you can put up static pages, or php driven pages, but probably not any cgi-bin or sql support.

Thanks for the response!

I've Googled for the things you say are not supported by your service and am still not sure how it would relate or limit what I want to do.

Also, is there a web page builder type freeware or something that doesn't cost an arm and a kidney to buy that is User type friendly?

Install this free very small server program on your computer so that you can author and publish locally on your computer before you transfer to the Web.

As for Authoring.

Level One.

Make a Straight forward Page in Word2003, or Publisher2003, and save it as an HTML file.

Level Two
.

Use a program like this, http://www.evrsoft.com/download.shtml

Level Three, use Front Page 2003.

friends don't let friends use frontpage 😉

The problem is most forums (nuke, fuse, etc) require a sql database. most form based pages will require a cgi script (not all, there are some client side cookie php ones, but I think they use a backend flat file). Also, it's more difficult to secure certain files, as you don't have shell access to add permissions.

ISP webspace is meant for a "hi this is me, and some pictures of me" static type page. Anything much more won't work.
