Comcast not getting a response from my modem

Yesterday around 5 pm., we lost our cable tv and internet. The tv came back on around 7 with no problems, but the internet still didn't work. I tried resetting the modem and router a couple of times, but it kept getting stuck on send. I called Comcast and they essentially said that there were no reported outages in the area and they were not getting a signal from my modem. They're supposed to send someone out today, but I am not holding my breath that they will know anything.

I use a Motorola SB5101 and a Linksys WAP54G router. Nothing changed on my end from the time the net went down to when the cable tv came back on, so I am at a loss for ideas.

It should be pretty easy for Comcast to diagnose. They'll look for a signal at your cable modem and then replace the modem if necessary. I doubt there's much you can do, considering your symptoms.

If you want to talk to the cable modem, it has a diagnostics web page at IP 192.168.100.1 / 255.255.255.0 . You can view the signal levels (if there's a signal) and the event log.

The point of the person coming out is to prove out the line. If your line tests OK, then you could have a modem failure (powerspike which toasted your service may have toasted your modem).
