I'm currently considering ditching my phone and DSL service and getting Comcast HSI. Hearing all the problems like this makes me wary of making the switch though. My DSL connection has been rock solid even if it is only 1.5 down.

If the modem is on and off, it's a signal/line issue. if there's a splitter, there's loss of signal, also, the coax may not have been cut properly. THey should provide you with a proper splitter, where the side going to the modem doesn't lose signal

The only time the modem needs to be replaced is if it's off completely, none of that intermittent stuff

All those problems were addressed long ago. In fact, we are supposed to have an excellent signal since the fiber runs to our doorstep...or rather, the streen next to our building.

All I know is that it is insanely aggrivating since our Astaro box acts as a proxy and caches everything. Sometimes we think we are online and are not simply because everything was cahced.:|

For the past 5 months or so, I haven't had issues with CHSI, in fact, I've been very very pleased with it. They say 4Mbps down and it really is 4Mbps down, unlike DSL, which is often only your "guaranteed" speed and not the 1.5Mbps they advertise. This isn't to say, however, that I didn't have my fair share of issues with them though, because when I first got them, cable modems had just come out, so obviously there would be kinks.

I HATE their customer service with a passion though. It's like they NEVER want to admit that they're wrong.
