at no addition costs. :)

Current speed > 2974 kbps down, 248 kbps up

New Updated Speed > Speedtest

Doesn't look like much of a gain or I already received the upgrade before today. Either way I take 3 mbps over 1.5mbps anyday.

when i had it installed at my friends house they said the 3.0 line was 100$ a month. that woudl be sweet if they got a free upgrade

yeah, if you read some of the conversation at broadbandreports, the list is only a rough guide...comcast is late in a lot of markets (no surprise there), early in some, some markets left off the memo, etc...

still I'm surprised they are increasing the speed without raising the price...I guess they are fighting the cheaper dsl offers with higher speeds.

They did raise the price $5. They just didn't specify that is was for increased speed.

Charter's doing the same thing where I live. Our free upgrade lasts until March I think. What's funny is that I hadn't even really noticed until they sent me a snail mail notification (I never check my Charter e-mail.) I was paying for their basic service 384/128 and am quite happy with it since I usually get a good bit more than that anyway (around ~550/128.) But I hadn't even noticed that my speed is now 2000/128 until they told me. :D For webbrowsing and even gaming I hadn't noticed a difference.

have you tried some of the cable modem tweaks? at broadbandreports and elsewhere? what operating system?

when I was first hooked up a few years, I had similar speeds 600-700kbps, then applied the tweaks and was right up to 1.5Mbps....(then 1.8Mbps when comcast upped the limit)..

or maybe your node is too heavily loaded, and you can't do much about that....or maybe it's a line thing, I'd have them take a look.

Check the speed test archives (also on broadbandreports) for your zip code, does anyone have 1.5Mbps?

Charter upgraded everyone in my area. Bad idea, not enough bandwidth for all. All I get now is packet loss.

Comcast... oh yeah... let's see. I did a speed test last night... 800kbps
rolleye.gif

And I got my latest bill from them yesterday too. I recently ordered the Speed channel (along with some others), which normally costs $5.99 extra per month. The CSR told me (on her own) when I ordered that I would get the first 4 months of that service for free. Unfortunately my bill did not reflect that, they were charging me full price. So I called their customer service last night and found out the original CSR lied to me. :disgust::|

I'm seriously thinking right now that it's time to get the dish and DSL...

I'm stuck between 150-200 Kbs downloads. Anyone else around Chicago having trouble with their speed? I was getting 1.5 Mbps+ last week.
