Comcast is horrible and evil

I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I used to have MediaOne RoadRunner and it was great. Comcast decides to move 70,000 people over to their network once they buy MediaOne. Of course they own MediaOne's network now so what they are saying is they are reconfiguring. I have lost allmost total internet service. I used to get 1.6Mbps down and 256Kbps up all the time. I have discovered they force people to use a proxy server that sucks and crashes and is slow. Their lines are busy and they don't care.

I hate big companies.

Oh and they are cuting service to 1.2Mbps down and 128Kbps up (if I ever got 1/50th of that I woudl be amazed) and raising the price by $5 to $45.99.

I am now paying $46/mo. for a connection with latency that rivals any dialup I ever had. Click on link....pause....pause.....pause....either page loads or I get a DNS error.



I am now searching for alternatives, but Earthlink DSL won't touch me(over 18,000 ft. from switch), Ameritech DSL says its available in my area, we'll see.

well it took me 15 mins to reply to this so...

i had no internet yesterday and it drops me every 10 mins. I hate comcast with passion and umm my internet had dropped again. I gotta wait now till the light come back on.

Comcast doesn't allow VPNs, which was funny since, when I pointed it out to a former sysadmin, he asked them to clarify their position so the 8000 employees of our company would not use them for telecommuting. 😀

They're a bunch of cheap bastards, but look at the alternatives. Verizon DSL? Hahah JOKE! SBC DSL? Nope. The best thing to do now is to make a private Wireless network coop with a leased DS-3 line and a big router and serve your neighbors...

I live in Canton, MI (15 min from Ann Arbor) and I agree that Media One Road Runner was great. I genuinely hate these Comcast a$$holes. Right now just like Paul (halik) my connection is getting dropped every 5 mins and its as slow as hell. And on top of thay they are now making me lease the modem for $5 extra a month(it used to be free under MediaOne) and they are lowering speeds to 1.2Mpbs. I tried to get support from they for 3 hours today, no luck they moved all their support lines to California and I'm in MI so I cant even go punch em in the face. Media One at least had it local and they would send a tech out. Comcast sucks they are a bunch of cheap a$$holes an ohhh what id give to kick their a$$ right now.....I am so fustrated with them right now. btw: im replying using my free SprintPCS Aircard. I guess ill dig up my 56k, dust it off and pop it back in tomorrow🙁

Oh Dually if u have any local support numbers can u let me kno plz.....and i really wanna so something about this its ridiculas(sp?)

12:30am whoo im getting some decent speeds and i havent been dropped for 10 mins! What a great service, i get to use internet at midnight! Oh yeah they took away my 3 ips too, im stuck with one computer online...

I will soon be in the same boat as you are. Right now my service is fine (with Comcast@Home), but on the 18th of January I will be moved to Comcast's wonderful independent network. If they screw me over too much I'm just going to drop my subscription in protest, and if they keep that damn proxy running so they can monitor my 'interests' to provide me with 'promotions' there's no way I'm staying with them. By the way, no more newsgroups for you (if you care about that sort of thing).


DSLReports Comcast forum is FULL of complaints like yours (and soon mine). I could understand all these problems if they got completely dropped by @Home, but they paid hundreds of millions to keep people on @Home until February 18th. If they have that much time, they shouldn't switch over people to their glorious independent network until it actually WORKS.

I also live in ann arbor, and my upload cap has been instituted. comcast sucks. i can barely play online games with a connection like that. im looking to transition. options anyone?
