Don't like it, don't buy internet from Comcast.
Simple.
Comcast is a bunch of crooks
just a random vent
about a month ago, I got a letter from Comcast notifying me that due to some kind of audit error, they hadn't been charging me a modem rental fee and that going forward, I'd be getting charged $8/month for renting a modem from Comcast. "generously," the letter told me that the charges would not be back-dated but would start with my next bill.
only one problem -- I own the modem, and have for the +4 years I've been with Comcast.
I've spent the past few weeks arguing with them on the phone and have even faxed them receipts of my Best Buy online order for the modem, but they're swearing up and down that it's their equipment (nevermind the fact that they haven't sent me one shred of documentation indicating that I signed for equipment delivery from them)
not even sure where to go from here, hence the random venting. I'd cancel in a heartbeat, but then what? give my own modem back to Comcast so they don't send a collection agency after me?
You are just figuring this out now?

Comcast named Worst Company in America on the same day it files TWC merger paperwork
Talk about incredible timing! On the same day that Comcast and Time Warner Cable are filing their merger proposal paperwork with the Federal Communications Commission, Consumerist has announced that Comcast has won its annual poll for the Worst Company in America.
For the record, this is now the second time that Comcast has won this particular dishonor, as it last won Consumerists Golden Poo trophy back in 2010.
This years award is very special for the company, however, because it comes just as its trying to do a major public relations charm offensive to convince American consumers and politicians that it should be allowed to merge with Time Warner Cable in a proposed deal worth $45 billion.
It will be interesting to see whether Comcast addresses the fact that both it and its proposed merger partner are seemingly hated by their own customers but for the time being it looks like the company is ignoring the negative noise and is focussing its efforts on heavily lobbying both lawmakers and regulators in Washington, D.C. to help the merger go through without a hitch. After all, just because youre the Worst Company in America doesnt mean you arent well-connected.

We ought to start a class-action lawsuit, I'm game!
They pulled the modem rental charge on me a few months ago (I own my modem). They claimed the modem was theirs because "their records say so." This happened to literally thousands of customers at the same time and for every single person they claim the error couldn't be theirs and they've never heard of it before. It literally took FOUR months to get them to take off the charge on future bills, and they NEVER refunded the money they charged me, even after they promised to do so three times.
Comcast is the only high-speed option I have. Thank you, FCC.
I just switched my cable to comcast. I already had their 50Mbps internet and had basic cable, but still used DirecTV till Sat. I was informed via chat session my bill would be $139.79 before taxes (monthly) and a one time installation fee of $70. Here's my bill after install:
I'd say I'm surprised there's no class action suit over this, but I'm sure Comcast customers are all forced into forced arbitration.
