For the past month or so, my internet connection has given me nothing but problems.

Up down up down up down. It's sporadic. I called comcast, they sent out a tech, gave me a new modem, put a new splitter in. Everything was AOK, so they left. Didn't fix it, so they came back out, but couldn't find a problem since the modem was UP when they showed.

The modem just recycles a lot. My neighbor is having the same problem, and I was gaming the other night and a guy on the server said he's having the same problems for a while now (I think he was in TX, I'm in FL).

Anyone else having similar experiences? I'm putting in for a service credit. This is absurd. They're coming out for the 4th time tomorrow. @@

It always starts working when the tech is at your place. As soon as he's gone, BAM!

They give you any hints on what the problem is?

I havn't called them because their tech support isn't worth their weight in gold... I was assuming it is just a bunch of upgrades since it happens at my house, and at work, and at my friends house (all in different towns)...

this happened to me a few months ago. Had to have a guy come in and do service. Charged me 50 bucks to screw around with our splitter web. I never called them again, and I beat the sh!t out of my modem. I was happy.

Not I. Comcast has been rock solid for me.

Do you have a router? It could need new (or old in my case) firmware.

I was having problems with my linksys 4-port Router, with online gaming being the most noticeable. The connection would constantly be dropped, giving that "up down up down" effect. When in actuallity, it wasn't the connection from Comcast, it was the router dropping it. So I actually did some reading, and found out that the NEW version of the Firmware on my router suxx hardcore, so I went back to the last firmware update (which was 3 years old) and now it works fine.

Crazy how a company like Linksys can supposedly "update" their firmware, and yet have it cause huge problems and actually make any other problems the router may have had, much worse.

They haven't even updated their crap since 2 years ago, and the one that works is 3 years old. This does not inspire confidence in Linksys products, to say the least. Any way I won't ever buy another, which is weird because when I bought that router, it had just came out and was touted for being the best. Which it was really, but 4-5 years or however long I've had it will change that I guess.

Sorry to go off topic but Linksys Routers Suck

Mine's been good for a long time. I had a problem last year with the Comcast DNS servers. I added a public DNS in addition to Comcast's and all my problems went away.

I have a linksys ... lol ... I thought maybe it was that, I was gonna put my old non-wireless SMC back into service ... but the Motorolla modem actually recycles.

If it was just the router the modem wouldn't recycle, right ... :\

was having some problems about a month ago where my cable modem would drop the signal on a daily basis...

the tech replaced a bunch of the connectors (said the connector that were initially installed by Comcast last year) were pretty cheap and that was causing the problem now (since the frequency of the signal is higher now or some techno babble along those lines)...

anyway, since they left 2 weeks ago, no drops at all...

in north dallas area BTW...

We had the same problem for a while.

It was wierd as we didn't get a signal from like 6pm-11am.
Between 11am-6pm the connection was fine.
We found that very odd and the one time the tech did come out, it was on so he couldn't help.

So we told them they need to come out before 11am and the tech found out the problem is the cable buried underneath. He was saying the moisture during night time was causing the problem.
I don't know if that made sense or not but he replace the ground cable and the problem went away.

It helps if you know when your cable go down so you can get the tech to come out and fix the problem.

After years of no issues, we are getting sporadic outages and slow downs in Central NJ. Which is bad for my company because we use the cable connection for transactions to CC companies.
