Along the lines of updates, maybe a windows update?

Otherwise, dslreports maybe? Not sure what speeds they're accurate up to.

Download some video drivers off AMD or Nvidia. they're around 30mb and have very fast servers.

My Cox cable internet gives me a solid 1 mb/s.

You could get a BT client up and download a bunch of torrents--go for the popular files so you'll be well connected. Naturally it won't be from a single source, but if you can pull down like 2mb/s across 100 different connections, then I'd say that's a good test.

BT or that other thing we don't talk about... ;)

BT can be iffy as it depend son wh you are connected to. That other things usually maxes out my 5meg connection with ease.

HP seems to have a good bit of bandwidth. So download some drivers/software from there.

Speakeasy will handle much more than 2.7, I have seen 70mb/s off of speakeasy at my old job.

thats probably the speedbost thing they have now, you will get high speed til 10-20MB, then it'll drop down to your regular rated speed.

it could be possible you are experiencing their speedboost, or what ever it is called I believe.

Comcast does not offer speeds that fast - you will see this with a real download. They offer "powerboost" - a gimmick that gives you a lift for the first few moments of download (providing the bandwidth is available!) and the speed tests will show artificially high values.

They do offer a service called "Blast" in a few areas with true provisioned speeds of 16/1 and 16/2 though.

Yes, "that other thing" does quite nicely at maxing out my 100mbit ethernet card at work (gigE internet connection, so my pc's NIC is the bottleneck). It also was able to max my comcast at 32mbit when it was "permaboosted" for that month or so over the holidays.
