They've been aggressively rolling out docsis 3.0 all over the country. More speed for you, same price.

My local isp, insight, will be coming out with 30/2 soon, not sure if its docsis 3 or they still use 2.0 servers

Edit: This must be recent. I usually cap out at around 12mbps on Steam... Might have to uninstall a steamapp and reinstall just for shits and giggles.

Edit 2: Looks like this is just my "Speed Boost" speed. Steam pulled down about 3.3MBps momentarily before dropping down to 1.5-1.6MBps.

download some big file and find out what your sustained speed is. powerboost only works for small files, IIRC.

I just read the DSLReports link and it said that it's good for the first 20mb on download and 5mb on upload.

Happened to me - Am on "silver" which is:

"up to 12mbps" - which really means - 6mbps sustained with powerboost getting you to 12mbps every so often. Oh and 6mbps sustained might not be really 6mbps depending on congestion.

AT&T has been pulling Uverse fiber all over the city. They made their way down and in front of my complex about 2 weeks ago. I suddenly get the flyer stating that my speed has been increased (of course I already knew that) - and that 50mbps was available for a ridiculous price. What this means is that Comcast upped the speed to avoid losing a customer to uverse.

Now it's "up to 25mbps" - which means - 12mbps sustained (1200ish k) with bursts to 24mbps from time to time - and the congestion IS bad. I often get periods of 7-9mbps during my "linux distribution" downloads, but generally am around 12mbps.

Upload has always been 2mbps and I don't think that changed.

oh wait....

Yes, fuck comcast because they still do bandwidth throttling and have caps. It's bullshit.

I never get that upload speed on ANYTHING. I've tried to upload stuff at a consistent 3mbits and it never happens... I get maybe 200kb/s at best and it goes up/down a lot.

Thats w/ a docsys 2 modem. I'm sure if I upgraded I'd get a bit more out of it.
