So I just upgraded to the new "blast" internet package for +$10/month more, total of $58.95.

Basically double the speeds of before. Downloading a Linux .ISO was steady 5-6 MBps.

The upgrade process went smooth. The sales rep enabled it while I was on the phone, I reset my modem (Motorola SB6210) and the new speeds were in effect.

Anyone else upgrade to this yet? Experiences?

Yup, but it waivers and is never 50Mbps all day long. It will bounce between 50Mbps and 25Mbps during the day. I'm also on busines class as well so that is why the upstream is so good.

Here is what I am getting now:

I downgraded my bundle to the lowest possible one they have in August. Surprisingly this upped my speed to 25Mbps. Not a bad situation. Certainly nice to download at 3-4MB\sec.

My guess is 2 more iterations of speed bumps will require I get a SOCSIS 3.0 modem.

The blast upgrade from 25 to 50mbps was only for fios areas where they had to compete since fios increased their speeds. Everyone else is still on the old speeds, not sure if they will be upgraded later. But probably not anytime soon.

That sucks. I was hoping for the faster speeds in my area. :(

The place i'm about to move to is only serviced by Comcast, which is seriously disappointing considering the amazing customer service and quality connection i've gotten from Cablevision for the past 15 years. I've heard nothing but horror stories about Comcast throttling even legal torrents and very low bandwidth caps where they cut off your service for a year for overages. I'm the kind of person who might go a month or two without any major downloading, then dl 250 GB in a single weekend, so i'm definitely not too excited about being in an area with a comcast monopoly. Would you mind sharing your experiences?

Yeh if you get the business class they don't throttle or cap. Business class customer service is way better than the home service.

Interestingly enough, I logged in yesterday to check my usage and there was a little note at the bottom of the area that said "Note:enforcement of the 250GB data consumption threshold is currently suspended"

side note, usage was:

Sept = 244GB
Aug = 94GB
July = 175GB

My usage patterns are similar to yours. There's months where we used the entire 250GB, other months where we don't come close.

I have gone over the cap, hitting about ~275GB a handful of times. Never back to back months. I have not heard anything from Comcast. According to their TOS, they will provide a warning if they are worried about your account in particular. They may even try to help you find a solution, ie open wifi...

They won't blacklist you for a year unless you don't heed their warnings, and you just go crazy.

If you're worried about it, spend the extra $10-15 and get business class, no usage cap and a static IP.

From customer service standpoint, this past year has been good. When I first moved here (3 years ago, new address, new account), they tried to pile on a few extra things we didn't ask for. A few minutes on the phone took care of that.

Thanks for the tips about business class, but the costs are crazy. I currently have Optimum Online Boost Plus, which is something like 50/8 (usually get closer to 60/8, even in a crowded condo complex all sharing the same node for $35/mo. Comcast Business 50/10 is $189/mo :(

I pay 59.95 for for business class. I bought my own modem it helps out so you don't pay rental fees.

What speeds is your business class package rated at? According to their website 59.95 is only the very basic business package thats something like 12/2. Though i'll probably have more luck picking up the phone and haggling with them as a new customer.

$190 for 50/10 just blows my mind ><

They did that in April or May I beleive. They are considering going to a tiered plan.

In Sept I used 574GB bandwidth. Monster downloading and uploading for me:eek:

They shit bricks when I hit 4TB, threatened to cancel my service if I don't 'slow' down on my usage next month.

... can't wait to get my fiber line in!

I'm not sure its the business starter package. I have no issues downloading 8gb files in like 40 min or so. Fast enough for all I do.

Got a letter from Comcast the other day telling me I should order a Docsis 3 modem to replace my aging modem to take advantage of new speeds they offer. Installed the new modem today, went from 33Mb/s to 55Mb in a speed test. Downloaded a game from Origin at around 7MB/s. Pretty nice.

I've had a docsys 3 modem but I have business class. I should provably recycle the modem.
