I noticed when i watch something sports related the feed will jump every few mins for a second or 2. Anyone else having this issue? I watch Lost in HD without a problem but i really notice it watching the hockey playoffs.

I have comcast and for some reason the sound goes off every hour or 2. I have to turn the box off and back on and then then sound comes back. Doesn't matter what channel I'm watching either. I do have the stuttering issues as well. I've gotten by box replaced once (Motorola something HD+DVR) and that hasn't helped. Boston area.

I have that problem with my DVR. If you just rewind a second the sound will come back but you'll lose it again in the future. Every time you rewind the time between the sound dropping out decreases. I got to the point one time where every 5 minutes I lost sound. That was really frustrating.

I don't have a problem with mine, but I'm not using a box, just QAM. It could be attributed to bad signal quality.

Yeah it can be a total pain in the ass and really frustrates me because at any random moment the sound can cut out, or the screen freezes. Just what I want when watching prime time shows!

Have you tried upgrading to a non motorola box? I've heard rumors that these other boxes are far superior, however I dont know how to get it. I wonder what could be causing the issue, since I have replaced the box itself, maybe an issue with the line?

I wish we got more than 10 channels in HD.

I wish I could just get the 10-12 HD channels and only pay $30 a month instead of the 200+ other channels i dont watch cause they look like crap and pay 60/month. I'll tell you what, I'd pay $50 for HD+premium(HBO, MAX, and Starz?) but I think thats near $90!

Only time I've had stuttering was the FOX baseball games this Saturday, and they weren't even aired in HD resolutions! What a waste... I just assume it's all because FOX is cheap and only cares about the bottom line $'s.

Have you guys thought about going with OTA reception? It's a pain to set up a rooftop antenna though, but once you get it pointed in the right direction, it works wonders (people on avsforum offer a wealth of advice on this). I mean considering how much you're paying for 10-12 HD channels and the reliability is shoddy. If you can live without DiscoveryHD and a few other exclusive HD channels, give OTA a try.

Our HD-DVR does not stutter. The only real oddity is that if I do not turn on the TV and receiver on before the box, about 50% of the time I won't get either any picture or any sound. I have to turn off the box and turn it back on and everything will work.

That's why I like OTA. FOX picks up better OTA than it does through comcast.

No ESPN/ESPN2HD OTA. That is the ONLY reason I have the HD package.

Plus "Planet Earth" on Discovery looks AWESOME.

I only watch the network channels (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC) so OTA is a good fit. I used to get HD from Comcast but with the problems I had, it just wasn't worth it. Plus, many of the streams are heavily compressed. The exception is DiscoveryHD.

Not to hijack this thread, but who's watching Heroes tonight ? See you in the Heroes thread. :D

I've had Comcast HD in two different locations and I've used three different boxes. I've had this issue for almost two years with them. It typically only occurs on the local stations. I've never seen the issue on channels such as TNT or Discovery HD.

The last time I called them about it they said they would send a tech to look at my problem. Bleh I'm not opening a 4 hour window of my time so that a tech can tell me what I already know.

EDIT: One other thing, I've also gone into the box setup and tried both 720P and 1080i. Same issue on both settings.

Here's how to fix the problems on a Comcast Motorola box:

If your HD channels have the stutter, turn the cable box off and hit menu. This still take you into the setup menu. Turn 4:3 override to either 480i or 480p (its mostly like on None or Off if you're having the HD stutter problem). Its a strange problem that even the Comcast reps don't have a clue about, but this seems to fix it, including mine which had this problem).

If your non-HD channels are stuttering, just try changing the channel to another non-HD station and then back again (just hit channel-up then channel-down) and that usually fixes that.

Hopefully Comcast will be providing higher quality HD boxes at some point, because the Motorola's have a lot of issues, and the DVR software is just awful.

I will give this a shot when i get home. I noticed it mainly on VS.

I have the Scientific Atlanta 8300HD box from Adephia, before Comcast took over my area. I've noticed the same issues since they took over.

their official excuse is "lack of HD production trucks"

but then you see news like this which just makes it look like FOX doesn't care about baseball.
