i just got off the phone with the sales rep and she got me all confused.

right now i have a standard double play start kit. internet/ cable TV. i rent 3 boxes from them at $5.99 each. previously we did not have a LCD at all so the thoughts of HD wasn't in my head at all.

I told her i just picked up a HDTV and i was interested in the service and wanted prices. She told me the box is $8.99 a rental and thats all i needed and she told me i would need all 4 boxes like that. $8.99x 4

I looked online and saw the SERVICE was $8.99 additional for HD services. But no mention of the box.

So now i guess i'm better asking people here then calling again. I have a standard mini black box for comcast. I DO NOT care for DVR. I just wanted HD service for ONE of my TV's how much more do i have to pay. is it $8.99 for the additional service and $8.99 for the HD box or do they use the same box for HD services.

Pretty sure it's service + rental.

So $9 service + $9 new box - $6 old box = $12 extra per month

Personally, I'm thinking of dropping Comcast TV service for Dish. I can get all my current channels + HD + DVR for $55 regular price, $40 for the first 12 months and waived activation (w/ 2 year commitment). Also, the STB can send analog signal to another TV in the house and the RF remote controls the box through the walls.

I think my Comcast internet would go up $10 per month, but it's probably worth it and I'd still come out ahead over Comcast for all those services. Lastly, from my playing around on friend's boxes, Dish's STB is way more awesome and responsive than Comcast's.

Did she say anything about DVR? I have comcast in MN and I pay ~$15/month for each HD cable box with DVR. It's my understanding that if you want HD channels other than the local channels you are required to have a comcast HD box. Hope this helps.

Dish or DirecTV ftw. Not only price, but especially when it comes to picture quality. Damn Comcast has the worst HD picture out of anything I've seen. Macroblocking galore..
