I just got my bill and it stated that comcast has double their cable internet service speed to a 3.0 mb downstream and 256kb upstream.

I was contemplating getting Comcast for internet but not only does it cost $55/month over here, I would have to get digital cable, and you don't want to hear my opinion about their cable channel lineup in this city. (Hint: They should change their name to "El Comcasto" and accept payment in pesos.)

Whoa, that just happed to me about a month ago. All the lower channels that used to be standard broadcast are now Spanish language channels. I hate Comcast with a passion. I still can't even get the SciFi channel.

Exactly.

For $40/month, I can get an assload of channels I like with DirecTV. Specifically, History channel, Discovery, Animal Planet, etc. etc.

Comcast in this area doesn't offer Animal Planet AT ALL. Instead, my $50/month (WTF) for "standard" cable includes 40 mexican channels, a couple Russian ones, and Filipino, Thai, Korean, and Vietnamese channels. What. The. Hell. I'd be more vehemently expressive about my opinion on this but I'd get banned for being racist.

Holy cow! I didn't know that, but did notice DLs seemed faster. Just checked via several test sites from DSL Reports and I'm averaging 3000 kbs. w00t!!!!

I have pretty good speeds with RoadRunner but dammit I wish they would boost ours even more. I've heard nothing of the sort. I would like to get some more value out of $45 a month like these other companies are doing for their customers.

Cool. I have Starpower and I noticed at the beginning of October I was getting download speeds MUCH faster than 1.5Mb as it said on the contract ... I can max out around 400KB/sec sometimes now :). It's great!

However I dont know if I just got lucky or they did that for a reason, because on their website they still say it's 1.5Mb down, but I get speeds close to 4Mb down. My up is the same at around 1Mb, I usually average around 95KB when actuallying uploading.

Prologue Express here. I think it's $30 a month, since we're cable subscribers already. But it's capped at 800kbps. :( Out in the boonies where I am though, I should probably be glad that we even have two-way cable at all.

I'm getting about 2.8MB in the speed tests now, but my download speeds from http and ftp aren't that different. My web connection has been really flakey so maybe they're working out the kinks. I'm sure this POS RCA modem isn't helping anything either.

If only they'd do something about the ridiculous latency in their network, and increase the u/l speed.

<-- has Comcast, but will likely switch to DSL in the future.
