you guys DO realize that 384 and under is more than enough for any game right?

Run a trace of games, you'll see they normally maintain a 192-240 kbs stream. That's all they need.

exactly .... I already said that ...

... im not running game servers anymore ....

Well hell all you really need is 56Kb up for most if not all online games, the only reason 56k is painful when onlinegaming is because dialup has quite a high ping, lowest I've gotten is 200.

30Mb download with a 384Kb upload... thats hilarious! I'd rather have my 2Mb download with 784Kb upload. It makes playing games on multiple computers much better.

Wow - I would not have expected that upload to be even sufficient for the ACK responses.

I get about 96kbps of ACK traffic per every 4Mbps download traffic. I would have expected the OP to need about 720kbps of upload capacity just to fill the download pipe. This is nuts

lol .. i got 10k more upload this morning ....

I live in a lrge burb north of chicago ...
so, I'm not really all that suprized about my upload....

What I DO CARE about is ping

And my ping rocks up here....

P.S. ... I had BOTH DSL and Cable at the same time for testing here before deciding...

I was SSSSoooooooo far from the CO,, the DSL had me on 768/768 ...
... because the line noise was so bad.

So, Cable was a 'no brainer'

That's why you need to max out your receive window.

All broadband connections (especially asymetrical ones) need some tuning for the most performance.

Wow you are SO elite with your TCP Recieve Window Size "hack". Nobody has EVER thought of that before. That "hack" has been common knowledge since broadband was invented (and way before that if you were a network guru back in the day).

Comcast must be scared of FIOS.. they bumped my parents connection speed to 15MB and dropped the price by $5 to $42/mo.

the receive window size has a huge impact on throughput, especially on high latency/high speed/assymetrical networks like broadband.

getting another 10, 20, 50 mbs of throughput isn't out of the ordinary.

All this started a month ago at my friends house ....

He has 4 computers on the same router and cable modem ..

3 of them test at 6mb max ,,,,,

while one of them was at 29mb ...

so I started some testing of my own ...

I'm just spreading the news .... old news ... of an old tweak

... and I still havent told my friend ,,, who 'missconfigured' his windows
.... and found a gold mine
