Comcast Compressing the HD signals

Enjoying my newly purchased 55" Sony and was watching Escape from New York on the Comcast DVR box. Well sure enough in the action scenes the picutre and sound almost became like stop gap photography.

I used the Google and came up with this article:

Don't forget the countless "HD" channels that are just SD upscaled and stretched. It's such a waste, but that's what they have to do in the marketing war against DirecTV, who also heavily compresses HD channels.

There's a limited amount of data that can be pushed through the wire. Competition is given us an increase in quantity, we just have to hope enough people will demand quality over quantity.
 
Comcast has been doing bad compression since they moved to digital, unfortunately. Alas, there's no real requirements for calling something "HD" (except perhaps resolution, which is bogus anyways), so they can get away with it.
 
Also, that film is particularly grainy for a reason. There are many movies that look grainy and it's done so on purpose.
 
I read an article somewhere comparing Comcast and Fios picture quality back-to-back and Fios looked much nicer. Comcast digital never looked that clear, to be honest.
 
That's why I won't pay a dime for that crap. I get all my locals in HD for free and my movies on Blu-ray. Good enough for me.
