Inspired by this thread I called comcast and had them come install the DVR. Well my wife was home when the guy arrived, and he was gone before I got home. First of all he brought the wrong model, some Scientific Atlantic model or whatever. Second of all (and mind you it's only be on for about 60 mins) the harddrive has already failed in it. Third the HD signal now looks like ass...and to top it off their systems are down so they can't record my problem

Guess what, they're rewarding themselves for their excellent service by raising prices again in January.

Yay! Go Comcast, you're the best!

I love the fact that the motorola one has a HD tuner built in, along with the ability to record two shows at once.

I have the non-DVR Motorola box. It is so-so, because it seems to choke sometimes -- doesn't respond for 15 secs or so. Quite annoying to say the least.

Congrats, I'm sure you'll like your new motorola as much as I like mine! :)

hmm..ihave the scientific atlanta one. its okay. the interface feels like the cable guide....with recording abilties. I know its not a TIVO...but i never had a tivo so i dont know whats better.

dont think they offer the motorola one in my area. in fact, wheni called in the guy who answered the phone had no idea what model they were giving out.

it does have dual HD tuners though....and the box is free!! no TIVO can match that. so yeah..for a clunky interface..you get to record two shows at the same time. Its totally useful when you want to record Lost and Smallville, and watch some pre-recorded show at the same time.

hard drive is filling up fast.

My Scientific Atlantic 8000 screwed up on me last week. Pulling the power cord from the wall seem to be the only way to get it working again once it crashes.

I called my cable company to bitch about the box. The person I talked to said they hadn't had any problems with them. I asked if they had a different box or plans to get a different box, and they said that they probably will get different boxes eventually, but they have only had the SA8000 boxes for a week. Since it's only been available for a week, I would be surprised if more than 10 people had the box at the time I called.

I think I'll call them back tomorrow and demand that they fire the guy that decided to use the 2 year old SA8000 box.

our first scientific atlantic model really blew goats - so we had comcast replace it with a new one, which has worked much better.
