Comcast and Email Servers

I currently use SBC Yahoo DSL to host a private email server. I am thinking of switching to Comcast Cable, but I'm wondering if they allow customers to host their own email server.

Anyone ?

Ports are blocked here. (Comcast in Boston)

With that said you still shouldnt run a email server at home if you want anything remotely reliable.
 
Not here in Pittsburgh. And my personal mail server is a lot more reliable than anything @Home ever had, I don't know about Comcast since they bought them though because I already had my server setup and never had a reason to take it down.
 
Hmm, That's funny that your ports are blocked atiyeh, I've run the server for years now on my SBC dsl connection.


Nothingman, Devioustrap, my email service is as reliable as my internet connection and power company. That is to say, its good enough for personal email, not good enough to sell accounts or anything like that. That being said, It hasn't been down more than 5 minutes over the past 2 years (except when I added ram, I guess.)

So the answer to my question is....... try it on Comcast and see what happens.

no kidding, I run exchange at home. I use dyndns and use comcasts smtp server to get around IP blocks, and i works great.

COMCAST does not block my ports, I am in TN.

the smtp port used to be opened in my area, however it was blocked about 2 months ago.

Can't send out email with comcast's subscriber IP subnet anymore. Had to use comcast SMTP server now.

many isp are already blocking comcast's subscriber subnet anyway, making mail delivery unreliable.

I have since moved my email to my hosted dedicated server.

All you need to do for that is use Comcast's mail server as the smart relay on your smtp server.
