I have a 6mb Comcast line. It goes like this

MODEM (RCA) ----> Router (wrt54g) ----> Epox 8rda+ onboard lan

My settings are as follows.

TCP Rwin: 64240
MTU Discovery : Yes
Black Hole: NO
Selective Acks: Yes
Max Dups Acks : 2

MTU 1500
Win Scaling No
Timestamp NO

My router is also set to 1500 MTU

My speeds at DSL reports are 1600-2000/275 which is horrible. Can you help out please

-------------------------------
UPDATE 1

Ok i did direct connection modem to comp and used SPEAKEASY.NET Speed test

I got 5313 the first time through and then 1500-1600 each additional time regardless of the location. This is bs as i went through this problem with my old surfboard modem

First step, measure the Speed by downloading a 10MB file from fast stable Server (like Microsoft.com).

Your 6Mb/Sec. should yield 600KB/sec. Stable download.

If it does, be happy,:music: and ignore the lame On Line Gizmos.

If it yields much lower "Speed", bypass the Router and connect directly to the Modem.

If it does not yield the correct Speed while connecting to the Modem call Comcast.

Reset your modem. I have Comcast as well and I was pinging up to 80 ms on my second hop... Same thing happened after a router/modem reset. So I changed the MAC address in my router to something else, reset the modem, and now I ping 6 ms to my second hop. ;) First try traceroute though.

tracert www.google.com

And see if any of the first two or three lines have really high pings.

Just a while ago I had trouble accessing forums.anandtech.com and www.xbitlabs.com. The DNS lookup was fine but the websites would not load. No clue what's going on with Comcast but I'm pretty sure it's them. I may try changing my MAC address and IP again. Or was it a coincidence AT and XBit came on at the same time?

Disconnect your router and hook your computer directly up to the modem and test again.

Ive done that alot. I tested conncetion on speakeasy like 10 times today.

Its odd. I would get 6000-7000kbs like 3 tests in a row then close browser and try again and not get over 1500 etc etc

You go on like this forever.

At this point you have to put your hand on another Modem to ruleout EOL Modem.
