Comcast 105 plan?!?! $249 install fee?

Order the performance internet package (25/5 speeds), they might not charge you for the install then.

Few weeks later, call in upgrade over the phone to 100mbps package.

Sounds like it might work?

Most have Blast! already...they still charge the install fee.

Edit: Forgot some of the details.

It's $249 for the service PLUS an Additional $30 installation fee. Now supposedly they send a tech to the actual node in your neighborhood and do a test back to the CO and to the home in question. If they get 105M or better than the tech rolls to the house.

They verify the wiring is good to the closet/location for the modem and if not handle the wiring.

Most homes will need RG59 to RG6 upgrades and splitter mitigation. In my home, I handled it when I moved in. I had all 8+ way splitters and a total of 3 of them in line by the time it got to my internet drop. Plus they were low-bandwidth splitters and many of the coax ends were just twist on.

Still there should be no reason why Comcast can't log into the current modem (especially if a DOCSIS 3) and verify signal levels and the like. If a house passes, the $30 install fee is fine. If mitigation is needed then the $249 can be charged.

Rumor has it in less than 2 years Blast! will be a 105/20M service.

Cheezewiz seems to have a very artificial view on real world billing to not believe companies bill at different rates in different regions. Either he doesn't truly know what his company does or they are a pure call-center locating in one geographic or similar cost-of-living based areas.

You seem to be under the impression I was making a blanket statement. I have not. I have not claimed to know anything about what other companies do.

However, I do know how mine rolls. 🙂
