I've been working to put together a really hot AV PC and slowly bought the best parts I could find cheap, but it is looking like I really stepped in it.

Iwill KK266R+ motherboard with 2x Seatgate 80 GB in a raid0, 512 MB ram, 1700+ Athlon running 98se, but even with a basic nothing else install the ATi software blue screens right and left just doing simple TV display and showing the schedule. PVR function was both poor and choppy.

I have done a bit of checking online, and I am concerned that I may have stumbled into the combo from hell, and that the Radeon AIW will never work with the KK266r+ due to some chip level conflict.

Maybe I should pop the AIW into one of the $65 Fry's combos, amd 1800+ and ECS K7VTA3 and forget about raid etc.

Please don't say ECS. Spend a little more money and get an ABIT KV7

Has SATA, RAID, onboard LAN and surround sound, most recent via KT600 chipset

Bundle with an 1800+ at Mwave for $131

I used an AIW 7500 with this motherboard once, worked great.

After reading your first post, you already have a 1700+ CPU. Why get a bundle with an 1800? Just buy the motherboard, which alone is $74

I had a Soyo motherboard for a couple of years with that chipset. I had an original AIW then upgraded up to 8500DV AIW. This ran fine with 2000. When I upgraded to xp I had some problems until a couple of releases of new drivers. Don't get me wrong I had problems up until I bought my new N force board but they were few. Maybe once every couple of weeks.

I just put together my first ECS combo, and once I put in Kingston memory it has been running just fine, and perhaps its just the way the dice rolled, but it a very QUIET system as well as stable. I would have popped the AIW into it, but I wanted to check out a Geforce3 Ti200 I had laying around (pulled from a P4 XP system it wasn't happy at all in). Since it is running fine I am reluctant to mess with it, plus I picked up a never better Frys $64.99 combo with a newer faster ECS motherboard K7VTA3. The AIW would be in the new combo but my junk pile is giving out on me. I would have never guessed that someday I might nun out of floppy drives pulled from old systems, and the cheap but so nice looking new case from the swapmeet on closer inspection is TOTALLY proprietary NEC with no options on motherboard mounting points, and special carriers that are missing required on all the drives. No decent swapmeet til next weekend either. Sigh life isn't easy as a hardware junky. ;)
