Combo 5.25" Enclosure driver problems

Having problems with my new combo 5.25 enclosure. Installed my plextor, plugged the electricity, and then plugged the usb port. Asked for new hardware found, used the drivers that came on the cd (Win 98SE). But under device manager, the enclosure had driver problems. Tried updating with the drivers from the New motion technology website (which sucks), which were recognized as being older than the drivers I already installed. Was curious whether the drive would show up as a separate drive when connected with USB, or only with firewire. Also wondering how to fix this dang driver problem!

Thanks,
Alex🙁

What's the exact hardware and do you have links?

I've found Firewire much less buggy than USB by the way, so maybe you might want to invest in a Firewire card. Note also USB will limit your burn speeds to something like 4X or something.

Eug,
I'm using a plexwriter 8/4/32A in a New Motion Tech. 5.25" combo USB/Firewire enclosure. Unfortunately, I can't connect the firewire cable to my Dell WebPC cause it doesn't have firewire ports and is not upgradeable, so I'm stuck with USB for better or worse. I installed the enclosure's drivers first from the included CD, but the device manager still has problems with it. My question is if the enclosure is recognized through USB, will it show up in my computers as a drive (ie. e: drive)? Cause when I connected another 3.5" enclosure to a Mac with firewire it immediately showed up as another drive.

Thanks
Alex
