After I finish rewiring my house, I'll have 10 network jacks available in various rooms, with all the cabling leading to a single point in the basement where I'll be placing my networking equipment. I'm wondering what to purchase for a switch.
This model is a likely candidate, based on owner's feedback: TRENDnet TEG-S80g
Currently I have an old D-Link DI-624 broadband router, which has 4 ethernet ports. If I purchase an 8-port switch, and connect one of those ports to the old router, that gives me 7 available ports on the switch. If I connect 3 peripheral devices (printers for instance) to the 3 remaining ports on the router, will the 7 computers connected to the switch be able to communicate successfully with the 3 peripheral devices connected to the router?
If not, I'll either have to settle for manually swapping cable connections as needed, or else daisy-chain 2 switches together (more $).
