Com ports hang under windows 7.

Hi,

i have one authentic com port and one usb to serial converter com port.
I tried this with the programs realterm and terminal.

usb to serial converter :
When i connect pins 2 RXD and 3 TXD it works.
I can type in text and i see the characters appear.
When i connect my mcu developmentboard to spit out data, the com port just locks up. I disconnect my dev board and when i connect pin 2 and 3 again i get nothing at all. I need to open and close the port again.

authentic com port :
When i connect pins 2 and 3 it does not work at all.

Since the beginning when i just started using W7 i have had issues with my com ports.

Does anybody have some good advice.
I think i need to get my oscilloscoop and check all the levels.

Tomorrow i am going to check at breaktime on my work if my mcu dev board and cables are ok.

I do remember that in the beginning i had other issues , that my devboard was not recognized correctly but the usb to serial converter worked. I had com port communication. Now it just does not function.
I am afraid that some of the updates by windows update have created conflicts with the VMware player i use.

For the authentic comport , i bought a com port bracket recently. I am going to make a loopback adapter to check if that functions.
And then it is hoping that it functions. My bracket may be wired in a mirrored fashion, i do not know at the moment.

Well, i checked my serial cable and it works.
My authentic serial port does not work, might be the bracket. I have to check that.

My usb to serial converter works.
And my dev board works, i had changed the jumpers from uart0 to debug port the last time i used it. That is why i had no serial port data coming out.

I do have a happy ending sort of, because my programming software SAMBA 2.12 recognizes my dev board. It did not before. I have had a lot of windows up dates, so perhaps one of the updates fixed that.

I do feel no longer in control of my own pc with windows 7 when comparing to windows xp when it comes to updates.

Now i only have to figure out why my authentic serial port does not work.
