It all began last night when I came home from a bon fire. The first sign something had gone wrong was that XP booted up with the Windows Classic appearance. I went to go change to the modern appearance but that option had suddenly disappeared! The next sign that something was wrong was that sound was not working. I went to the sound and audio devices option and it stated that no sound device was detected. So I went in my Event Viewer and found the following errors:

In the application section:

"The COM+ Event System attempted to fire the EventObjectChange::ChangedSubscription event but received a bad return code. HRESULT was 80040201."

"The COM+ Event System failed to create an instance of the subscriber partition:{41E90F3E-56C1-4633-81C3-6E8BAC8BDD70}!new:{D3938AB0-5B9D-11D1-8DD2-00AA004ABD5E}. CoGetObject returned HRESULT 80070422."

& in the system section:

"DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service StiSvc with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{A1F4E726-8CF1-11D1-BF92-0060081ED811}"

All these issues began when I turned on the computer that night for there are no errors or warnings before that.

My normal reaction was to go to system recovery but conveniently the only restore point available is 5 minutes after I got this error and I know there were restore points before that but they have also disappeared!
